Kate Selby HR Professional Development Scholarship

The Kate Selby HR Professional Development Scholarship was established by the Wyoming SHRM State Council to support and recognize human resource professionals who demonstrate leadership, professional excellence, and ongoing contributions to the HR profession.

This scholarship honors the legacy of Kate Selby, who passed away in 2016. Kate was deeply committed to serving the HR profession through her volunteer leadership with SHRM and her work in human resources for the State of Wyoming. Her dedication to professional development, public service, and advancing the practice of human resources continues to inspire HR professionals across Wyoming.

The scholarship is awarded annually to one (1) HR professional and provides funding equivalent to the current cost of a national SHRM membership. The scholarship is intended to increase access to professional development opportunities for HR practitioners whose employers do not provide financial support for SHRM membership.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

a. Be currently employed in the human resources field;

b. Demonstrate a commitment to continued professional growth and development within the HR profession;

c. Demonstrate leadership skills and ongoing contributions to the HR profession through activities such as volunteer service, mentoring, professional involvement, community engagement, advancing HR best practices, or supporting the development of others in the field; and

d. Certify that their employer does not pay for, reimburse, or otherwise provide funding for a national SHRM membership.

Application Guidelines

Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the Wyoming SHRM State Council based on the eligibility criteria listed above. Each application must include:

  • A cover letter describing the applicant's qualifications and professional contributions;
  • A current résumé; and
  • One letter of recommendation from an employer, colleague, SHRM volunteer leader, or other professional reference familiar with the applicant's contributions to the HR profession.

The Wyoming SHRM State Council reserves the right to request additional information if needed to evaluate applications.
