Trish Grogan, Senior HR Consultant for Fort Lewis College and SHRM/USAA Foundation Veteran Ambassador, will share about the amazing hiring opportunities this important program provides. This presentation will empower state of Colorado HR professionals with training and tools in the recruitment and retention of veterans. As one Ambassador recently stated, “it does not matter how many programs there are to assist the military member or their spouse, if the person hiring does not understand the contribution they can make and the experience they will bring.”

To be known as an employer of choice, the State of Colorado needs strong leadership at all levels, sound decision making, strategic thinking, and a diverse and inclusive workforce. Veterans have gained many of these precise skills and characteristics through their military service. About the Presenter

Trish Grogan has over 19 years of experience in Human Resources. She has worked at Fort Lewis college since September 2007. She is certified through the State of Colorado in Job Evaluation Selection. She earned her SHRM-SCP (Senior Certified Professional) in 2019 and her Veterans at Work Certificate in February 2020. She became a SHRM Veteran Ambassador in the Fall of 2021.

What is a Veteran Ambassador?

Together, USAA and the SHRM Foundation are mobilizing HR volunteer leaders, known as “Ambassadors”, to serve as force multipliers in combatting the significant and negative impact of COVID-19 and other barriers on the employment opportunities for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses. The Veterans Ambassador engages local professionals in their community and networks through training programs, equipping HR professionals with the knowledge and tools necessary to attract, hire, and retain veterans in the workplace. Research and experience has demonstrated that this population is important untapped talent, and there is a pressing need to educate and train hiring decision makers on the value this talent brings to the civilian workforce. Veterans are consistently recognized as high performers and provide both an excellent ROI and incalculable value to an organization through every phase of the employee lifecycle.

By completing the free Veterans At Work Certification, those certified as SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP can earn 10 professional development credits toward their recertification.
